About Me

Peter Hobson Driving Instructor

My Story – Why a Driving Instructor?

I retired from the Royal New Zealand Navy after 21 years service in 1985 and have worked in a variety of roles since.  In addition I was a tutor of conversational English to the father of an Afghani family who came to New Zealand as refugees.  This was something that I could do on a voluntary basis and usually involved 1 hour a week in the evening.  While doing this I got to know the family really closely and at some point his wife Fatima indicated that she wanted to learn to drive and get her drivers licence so,  without giving it too much thought,  I offered to teach her. Fatima had no driving experience whatsoever and very little English – but she had the desire and great determination.  She passed the written test and got her Learner Licence  and that was the beginning of an adventure for both of us.

Fatima achieved her goal and learnt to drive, passed the test for her Restricted Licence and eventually her Full Licence.

I discovered that I had an aptitude for teaching people how to drive and attain their goals and  decided to become a Driving Instructor.

We both discovered a sense of satisfaction and pride in what we had achieved.
